Already thousands of AI impersonation scams

In 2022 so-called impostor scams were the most frequent type of fraud reported in the United States and generated 36,000 reports according to the FTC, with more than 5,000 victims with $11 million of damage over the phone. Now with AI voice-generating software requires just a few sentences of audio to convincingly produce speech that conveys the sound and emotional tone of a speaker’s voice, while other options need as little as three seconds. Thousands are already scammed by AI voices mimicking loved ones in emergencies.
Would you not pay your friend in need talking to you over the phone with his or her real voice?
