From Monday, the Swedish Government Offices are blocking the AI services ChatGPT and Claude on staff work computers. The aim is to make employees use the services the organisation has approved, including Microsoft’s AI tool Copilot.
According to internal information seen by Ekot, security in Copilot has also been raised after a review. The press service will not share details about the tightening, citing security reasons. Digitalisation director Mikael Wettercrantz declined an interview with Ekot.
In a comment on the intranet, he says that using AI services without an agreement can have “consequences for our information security”. Some staff will keep access to an AI assistant platform developed by the Government Offices themselves, which provides access to ChatGPT and Claude. The use of Deepseek had already been restricted.
According to Ekot’s survey, the Government Offices are not alone. Blocks have been introduced at Skatteverket and Statens institutionsstyrelse (Sis), and Kronofogden is preparing a position. At Trafikverket, an internal audit earlier this year found widespread and risky use of around ten different AI services.
For your organisation, the lesson is clear. Map which AI tools your staff use, offer approved alternatives and set clear rules on what information may be entered.
